Mostly Men with Moustaches

Possibly French from the look of the waiter. Twenty one of the Twenty Three men have moustaches. Possibly a predecessor of the modern Movember sponsored event.

A Famiy Scene

This postcard is addressed to My Dear Wife, and is from ...Your Dear Husband XXXXX. The family scene on the card is sent by a soldier awaiting return home soon after the end of World War I.

A School or Sunday School?

The building behind could be either a church hall or a school. Looking at the children, there is such a variety of ages from two year olds up to fifteen and sixteen year old. Only the smallest child at the front has moved and is blurred but most have remained still enough to have their likenesses captured.

Wroxham Broad

This postcard was written in 1925 by Olive, aged about 13 at the time. Olive was my Grandma.

Me (aged 11) and my sister (aged 8) once boarded a bus and undertook a long journey to visit our Grandma. She was very cautious least anybody see us. There was a phonecall from Grandpa while we were there. We did not worry. It was an adventure to us, but to her and grandma there was a lot at stake.

Those were strange times a bit like the cold war between the East and West but in our case it was because we had come out of a religious sect and our grandparents remained in it and they were not allowed to see their grandchildren.

But Most of All

But Most Of All...... I Love How You Love Me

Entbach

I used to fly to Germany a lot and this is a very typical view from the aeroplane window coming in to land. It shows the village of Entbach- possibly in the 1960s. Entbach is now part of larger grouping although not much changed. Various villages have been amalgamated since 1971 and now go under the name of Bad Entbach.

Saint Jacut de la Mer, Brittany, France

Another hand painted postcard this time by Ruby Cleeve. This is just one of many such water colours in her sketch books and was painted on 8th November 1930. It has never been sent as a postcard before today - as far as I know - but it was very easy. I just printed a copy onto thin card which I sent to somebody - completely out of the blue.

Abbey Park Gates Leicester

A large park near the city centre with a lake and bandstand and what I remember best was a low ground plan of the abbey which we would walk round as children. The Abbey was dissolved in 1538 by Henry VIII.
